Suhindol Municipality
The municipality of Suhindol is located in central northern Bulgaria occupying the western part of Veliko Tarnovo region. Its total area is 157.55 sq. km and includes a total of six settlements: the town of Suhindol, and the villages Gorsko Kalugerovo, Gorsko Kosovo Byala River, Koevtsi and Krasno Gradishte.
The first evidence for the existence of a settlement on the lands of today's Suhindol dates from the Neolithic age. Suhindol is formed as a wine center since ancient times, evidence of which is a plate from the beginning of our millennium on which are depicted Heracles and Dionysus and among their attributes are grape clusters, and vines wrapped around his head.
The cultural institutions and the devoted volunteers of the municipality Suhindol concentrate the whole cultural life of the settlements: library work, dramatics and art groups.
The natural resources and climate conditions in the municipality are prerequisites for the development of different types of tourism. There is a great potential for development of rural, eco and wine tourism.
The area around the dam Alexander Stamboliyski is suitable for development of rural tourism because of the tranquility, fresh air and beautiful scenery of the region. There are also many opportunities for water sports. The houses located nearby, feature interesting architecture and can be converted into cozy family hotels. Other rivers are also regularly visited by tourists for the purpose of recreational and sport fishing.
