Kesarevo Village

The village of Kesarevo is located in the north-eastern part of Bulgaria, 30km from Veliko Turnovo. The river Stara reka, which rises from Elena-Tvarditsa part of the Old mountain.
Typical aspect of the terrain are the numerous hills and heights. The climate is mild-continental, characterised with hot summer and cool spring and is appropriate for any agriculturals.
First the village was mentioned in an Ottoman register with the name of Kusaruva. The ethimology of the name is often disputed, but it is reckoned that it comes from the ancient Byantine title of "Kesar", also, a Turkish word meaning "coppise". Today's locality the settlement has because of the plague epidemy which made the people to move 2km away. At the beginning of 20th century the village is a district centre, and nowadays is part of Strajitsa municipality.
Every year on St Marina's day the villagers meet at the small Ayazmo, called from the locals Marinkino kladenche. The legend says that hundred years ago, right at the day of St. Marina as if from the bosom of the ground water has arosen for the first time. People believe that this water is healing, giving hope for better days.
Today at this place has been built a chapel with the icon of St. Marina
