Living room with a fireplace - a dream or an acceptable luxury?
Font size:  A  A  A
Is a living room with a fireplace in our modern homes a dream or an acceptable luxury? The answer depends, of course, on everyone's point of view and would have a very individual character according to the specific possibilities.
And it is not only about financial possibilities, but also about the size and features of the home in general, in particular - the living room.
They say that dreams come true and that Santa Claus brings presents if you write him the right letter and send it to the right place... We're not quite sure about the latter, but there's nothing stopping us from believing, right?
And if we really dream of a living room with a fireplace, we can also take on the role of the white-bearded old man and give ourselves the comfort and beauty of live fire in one form or another at home. It is entirely possible that we don't even live in a house, as long as we settle on the most suitable option. Quite understandably, the owners of houses have more freedom of action, but both in a house and in an apartment, the presence of a fireplace in the living room needs to be taken into account when designing or at the beginning of furnishing a new home. Or at the stage of major repairs.

1. Fireplaces with closed combustion chambers
The classic version of the fireplace has an open hearth, but due to a number of considerations, in modern apartments and even houses, this rustic element is not quite acceptable. Because of the smoke, because of the need to take more care and take into account the fact that no sparks or embers accidentally jump out around, etc.
For these reasons, in most cases, owners stop at wood-burning fireplaces with closed combustion chambers.
One-sided, with more faces to observe the play of fire from more corners of the home – a matter of preference and interior planning of the specific living room with fireplace.
Of course, in terms of aesthetic qualities, those with open fireplaces look very impressive, but it is more difficult to heat even a larger room. Fireplaces with closed chambers accumulate internal heat and limit the access of air to the center of the furnace, thanks to which the burning of wood is significantly slowed down. To illustrate the difference in the efficiency of the two solutions, it is enough to compare their efficiency, which for open fireplaces is about 15%, and for closed models about 70-80%.

2. Electric fireplaces
There are options in which the dwelling either does not have a chimney to remove the smoke (it often happens in our reality), or there is, but the care of the live fire is quite a burden for the owners - providing wood or pellets is not too easy a task, as well as cleaning the fireplace, maintaining the corner near it, etc. But there is still an option, and these are the electric fireplaces, which quite successfully imitate the real ones. What's more, this type of fireplace also has a "flame effect" function, which can also be turned on during the warmer months of the year, when the owners simply want to create a more special atmosphere.

3. Gas fireplaces
A living room with a gas fireplace is a much more specific case, which is mainly suitable for a house due to the peculiarities of the overall installation.

4. Bioethanol fireplace
A living room with a bioethanol fireplace is the optimal solution for interiors where it is not possible to connect a traditional wood-burning fireplace installation. Bio fireplaces are an ecological substitute for traditional fireplaces, they can look just like them, but a chimney is not necessary. With this type of fireplaces, you can achieve a unique interior decoration, forming the center of the social life of the family. Various models are available – for embedding in a wall or furniture, for hanging as pictures on the wall, as well as standing ones that can be placed on the floor or table and easily moved when needed.
However, we cannot fail to emphasize that, unlike electric fireplaces or wood-burning fireplaces, they have mainly a decorative and not a heating function.

The fireplace in the living room, no matter what type it is, is not only a magnificent interior decoration, but above all it is a symbol of home fire. It creates a unique atmosphere in the living room space and fills it with pleasant warmth, be it visual!
And will it remain just a dream – let each of us find an answer for ourselves!
