Velchevo Village
Velchevo is a village in Northern Bulgaria.
Until 1893 the name of the village used to be Fida Bey, and by 1951 - Mariino.
The day of the village is on May 6 (St. George’s day)
The Velchevo meadows are located in valleys and hilly area on both sides of the river Vidima, north, northwest and east of the village in the Fore, east of Troyan.
The place is of international importance for conservation of nesting there globally threatened species corncrake / Crex crex /, which nest there in significant numbers. With regard to other species the area is not sufficiently studied.
