Butovo Village
The village of Butovo is located in the central part of the Danube Valley, 9 km north-west of the town of Pavlikeni. Geographical landmark is the hill called Chatala, 132 meters altitude, which in the past used to be inhabited. There are several theories about the origin of the name "Butovo”. One of them is that it comes from the Thracian word "But" - a fortress. According to another theory, there was a large Thracian chieftain, who was called Butto.
These lands were inhabited by Thracians (IV century BC). They have left a rich cultural heritage. In the open tombs, known as mounds and underground tunnels, like galleries, were found pottery, jewelry, coins and many other subjects. From these findings it is clear that the basic means of living is pottery.
Nowadays the village is developing as an agricultural area. Plane helps the development of agriculture as basic means of living. Typical for Butovo are the watermills that were placed in the bed of a small river Lomya, which runs through the settlement.
In 1950 years has been built and brick factory.
