Suhindol City




Suhindol is one of the most famous and richest Bulgarian towns. Lovers of wine call it the "Bulgarian Champagne”. Accourding to the archeologists from Veliko Tarnovo Museum the oldest evidence of life in the settlement are from the period of eolian (New Stone Age - 6000 years B.C.). It was a rich Roman settlement. Suhindol is an old village, but unfortunately we can not determine how many centuries ago it has been existing for.

For over hundredd years the occupation of the people has been the vine growing and wine-making. Sukhindol has the oldest cellar on the Balkans.


Boaza – a waterfall 3km south-esast of the town on the road to the village of Koevtsi

The Roman road- remains- 3 km south-west of Sukhindol

The “Sukhindol peak”- A gone-out volcano

“Sopotska stena”- A cliff massive, givimg the main appearance of the town

The “Alexander Stamboliyski” dam lake- Built in the first half of the 40’s and finished in the 50’s. It is the first big dam lake in Bulgaria.

“Seltse”- Remains of a Roman settlement, 1km south of the town. The piping built them days is still used.

Remains of an medieval monastery- 1km east.

Treskavets- An area, 4km south-east, mainly used for agricultural work
