Like any other new year festival around the world Bulgarian new year is also celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. The day has great historical importance attached to it. The new year's eve in Bulgaria is celebrated as St. Basil's Day or better known as 'survaki'. During this time new year wishes in Bulgaria are exchanged between the young and old. The people celebrate the new year by wearing new clothes.

New Year Celebrations in Bulgaria is a major festive season marked by gala Ceremonies around the country with great fun and fiesta. Bulgarian people are by nature very fun loving and adventurous so during the new year festival majority of the people spent the holiday at the various beach resorts nearby amidst the beautiful and exotic locales.

New Year celebrations in the major cities are marked by various cultural processions and events. In fact week long music festivals and carnivals are held to greet the new year. People welcome the new year by bursting fire crackers. Various sporting events like car race paragliding and other traditional sports are held. Just like any other festival, New Year is a festive season in Bulgaria.

Preparations for the New Year events in Bulgaria start long before. Many carnivals are held where people dress up in various colorful attire. One of the major attractions during the New Year eve is people dressing up as Santa Claus and trying to draw huge crowd. New Year is always a special occasion for the people of Bulgaria and it's during this time that certain traditional rites and rituals are performed for a prosperous year ahead.
