Mindya Rock Fest Returns for Its 16th Edition with Local Flavor and Nostalgic Vibes |
|
This weekend, the 16th edition of the Mindya Rock Fest is set to electrify the stage, kicking off at 7 PM on both Friday and Saturday, August 23 and 24. The festival promises an exciting lineup of 10 bands, featuring local talent such as BARKS, Error 404, Cold Shot Trio, and The Drivers.
For festival-goers looking to immerse themselves in the full experience, two tent camping areas and a designated space for caravans have been set up. Co-organizer Stanimir Gabrovski highlights that, unlike previous years, this edition will feature improved amenities, including washrooms for campers. "We've also prepared hot kebabs and cold beer to keep the energy high and the mood festive," Gabrovski added, expecting an enthusiastic crowd to gather on both nights.
A Celebration of 60s and 70s Hippie Culture
Mindya Rock Fest has long been celebrated as a tribute to the hippie culture of the 1960s and 70s. Prof. Evgeniy Dainov, one of the key organizers, emphasized that this year’s festival aims to reconnect with its roots. "We’re bringing back the spirit of the early years by featuring local bands and groups from outside Sofia," Dainov explained.
The festival's origins date back to 2009 when two British residents of Mindya approached Dainov with a modest budget of BGN 2,000, inspiring him to organize the first event. What began with just three local bands has since grown into a significant event on the regional music calendar, drawing bands from neighboring countries like Turkey, Serbia, and Belarus. This year, the headliners include the Greek powerhouse, the Sakis Dovolis Trio, who will take the stage on Friday night.
A Festival That Inspires Generations
Mindya Rock Fest has not only become a popular destination for music lovers but also a source of inspiration for new events across the country. Over its 16-year history, the festival has seen a new generation grow up alongside it—many of whom have formed their own bands, such as Smokey Mountain River.
As the festival prepares to kick off, it’s clear that Mindya Rock Fest remains a cherished event, bringing together people of all ages to celebrate music, culture, and community. |
