The renovated church of Rozhdestvo Bogorodichno in the village of Gesha
Font size:  A  A  A
Interesting, beautiful and significant monuments are hidden everywhere. Bulgaria is full of famous monuments such as the Rila Monastery, Tsarevets, Perperikon and many others. But there are a lot of unpopular and unknown monuments which are worth knowing. They often have amazing stories as well.
Such place is the small, but picturesque village of Gesha. It is settled only three kilometers away from Draynovo. It offers nice views toward Stara Planina. But you should go inside the village to visit the church Rozhdestvo Bogorodichno which was recently renovated.
It was built in the end of XIX century only with donations. It has interesting architecture. The four cinctures are standing out and remind of the churches in Nesebar. Unusual for this region is that the facades are build in front and have four columns each, with double arches and between the columns there are narrow but tall windows. The main building material is processed stone. The church is cruciform, apse and the belfry is set in the church.
Like many other churches in the villages, this was also abandoned. Fortunately there are vigorous and conscientious people which decided to help for its renovation. These were the people from the eco-village of “Gesha View” – one of the biggest projects in the field of rural and eco tourism in Bulgaria. The church is only 2 to 3 minutes away from the village. After many meetings with different authorities there was finally set a church board. For a priest was appointed the young priest Georgi which also answers for the chirches Saint Troitsa and Vavedenie Bogorodichno in Dryanovo.
In 2012 he applied for a renovation project which costs 460 000 leva. The project was approved. It is made a whole strengthening of the construction, new roof and floorings, electrical system. The frescos were cleaned and renovated. A fountain was build and lighting was made which features the building during the nights.
