Gabrovo, Tryavna, Sevlievo – traditions, creativity and experience
Font size:  A  A  A
It’s a challenge to stay at one place for more than three days and each day to find what to do, where to go and what to see…

There is a secret solution and it is to find a place, close to other good destinations – the more, the better! If you manage to find also a combination of nature, attractions, amusements, comfort and good food, for a vacation you will need only a ready suitcase and a good company.

One of the most attractive regions in Bulgaria - Gabrovo, Tryavna, Sevlievo - offers exactly such an irresistible combination.

The romance of the cozy mountainous towns, which have preserved their bygone spirit of the Bulgarian Revival, offers a unique type of feeling and experience, quite different from the mass tourism of the overcrowded all-inclusive hotels in densely built-up resorts.

The region of Gabrovo, Tryavna, Sevlievo includes a multitude of picturesque villages, where you can find little family hotels and guest houses with flowery yards, delicious local dishes, home-made banitsa.

Here you could enjoy the silence and tranquility of the mountain, to go fishing or to take some of the multiple mountainous routes. The region is a part of the Territory of Natural Park Bulgarka and National Park Central Balkan, owing to which the nature is preserved in its true, intact form.

What else you can do here? The old cobbled market with craftsmen workshops in Architectural Ethnographic Complex Etar and Tryavna are among the favourite visitors’ destinations.

The diverse local museums of the region are an indispensable tourist stop. Among the rich collections of valuable art works, you can find your own nook, where to experience unforgettable moments.

Bojentzi – a village which has been converted during the years into an oasis of the authentic Bulgarian spirit and traditions of the Bulgarian Revival - is situated in close proximity to Gabrovo.

Whenever we talk of Revival cities and preserved traditions, Tryavna is among the favourite and requisite destinations, famous for its iconography school, woodcarving and architecture, it’s also a place where you can still catch the rhythm of Slaveykov’s words.
And while Gabrovo is famous as the world capital of humour and satire, Sevlievo is the capital of the pumpkin where even a Museum of the Pumpkin has been founded. Close to Sevlievo one can see the medieval fortress of Hotalich, where there are traces of residential buildings, workshops, fortified walls, ancient churches...

An important part of the region’s attraction is the rich event calendar. Among the most popular events is the Festival of humour and satire in Gabrovo, which lasts one week and ends with a magnificent carnival always falling on the third Saturday of May. Gabrovo attracts thousands of tourists also with the international Fair of Crafts in Etar at the beginning of September. In Tryavna the most popular event include Slaveykov’s Days at the beginning of June, and Sevlievo has its festival of the pumpkin organized annually in October.

Painted churches and monasteries, cuddled in mountainous towns and villages, add special charm to the region. Among the most popular are the St. Michael church in Tryavna, Sokolski Monastery near Gabrovo and Batoshevski Monastery near Sevlievo.

Resort complex Uzana offers winter holiday and skiing opportunities. Bulgaria geographical center is situated here.

It is this center that unites the three cities and offers multiple recreation opportunities in all seasons.
