Pavlikeni Municipality
Pavlikeni Municipality is set in Central North Bulgaria, in the west-central part of Veliko Tarnovo District. It occupies areas of the central part of the Danube Plain and a few small elevations of the Pre-Balkan. That is why the municipality is characteristic for plain relief. “Rosica”, “Lomya” and “Negovanka” rivers are the main water resources of Pavlikeni area. They also provide conditions for resting and picnic on their shores, as well as fishing and camping, and practicing all kinds of open-air activities. Some of the villages of the municipality are big and lively, and some are small and quiet. The main activities and efforts of their inhabitants are concentrated in the development and the cultivation of grain crops and vines, as Pavlikeni Municipality is formed as an agricultural region of Bulgaria. The soil in its territory is very fertile and the environment and the climate predispose the growing of wheat, corn, barley and so on.
The town of Pavlikeni is the administrative center of the municipality, and it is within short distance from several towns - 43km north-west of the magnificent old capital of Bulgaria Veliko Tarnovo, 22km south-east of Levski, about 40km north-east of Sevlievo, 14km north-east of the wine-producing center Suhindol, and about 50km south-west of Byala. The capital Sofia is approximately 230km away, and the seaside city of Varna - 270km.
In historical and cultural aspect, Pavlikeni Municipality is rich in monuments and amenities dating back from the Antiquity. During excavations in the region have been found traces from the prehistoric human being, an antique settlement and a Thracian villa. Only 4km away from Pavlikeni the one of a kind antique ceramic complex on the Balkans is located. Remarkable are the cave “Troana” near the villages of Vishovgrad and Novo selo, the “Musinski” cave, the so called ”Bratska Mogila” /”Common Grave”/ next to the Gorna Studena village, where dozens of Bulgarian and Russian soldiers have died for Bulgaria’s Liberty. The cultural educational traditions of the municipality are preserved and developed by the 20 community reading centers, which bear symbolic names like “Fraternity”, “Light”, etc. Places worth visiting in the town of Pavlikeni are the Art Gallery, the Zoo and the monuments of the brave Bulgarian and Russian soldiers.
