Gabrovo City
The town of Gabrovo is situated in the northern spurs of the middle Balkan range, in the narrow and picturesque “Yantra” valley. It is an administrative center of Gabrovo Region. Gabrovo is about 45km south-west from Veliko Tarnovo, 220km north-east from the capital city Sofia, and 270km south-west from the seaside city of Varna. The central geographical position of the town makes it a main transport junction of Bulgaria. In addition, the geological center of Bulgaria is located within 25km south-east from Gabrovo – in the vastest meadow of the Central Balkan, named “Uzana”. Uzana occupies an area of high steep mountain ranges, where there are excellent conditions for practicing winter sports. The existing ski and hotel facilities make Uzana a desired tourist destination. The town of Gabrovo provides numerous attractions - the Historical museum situated in Dechkova's house, the art gallery "Hristo Tsokev", the Baev bridge built by the great master Kolio Phicheto , the Clock tower, The monument of Racho Kovacha, erected in the “Yantra” River, etc. Undoubtedly the most impressive and significant part of Gabrovo is the architectural and ethnographic complex, called “Ethar”. The “Ethar” is an open-air museum, one of a kind in the whole Southeastern Europe. It is 8km away from the center of the town and offers retrospection and introduction in the customs and traditions of the local craftsmen. Approximately 20 region crafts are presented there - pottery, tailoring, wood-carving, cutlery and many more. The specific thing about these procedures is that the used mechanisms in the workshops and the miles are only water-driven by the so called “Sivek” River.
Another thing we should mention about Gabrovo is that the town is known as “the town of Humor and Satire”. There is a unique house of Humor and Satire, where international performance is held two times in every odd year.
