Contemporary Christmas living room ideas |
|
Christmas living room decorations don't have to be traditional and if you have a modern scheme you can have lots of fun jazzing it up with trendy seasonal updates that will brighten up the place during the holidays. Pick decorations that echo their surroundings, for example, you could team a bold geometric striped rug and a bronze sculptural coffee table with gold ribbon streamers and dot around plenty of sphered candles in complementing metallic colours to complete your contemporary Christmas living room look. In a teal modern living room scheme, opt for shiny blue baubles on the Christmas tree and lay down a teal and gold tartan rug. Just one or two carefully chosen decorations are enough to make a minimalist setting feel Christmassy. You could dress a sleek granite fireplace with just a single garland of blue eucalyptus sprigs, ivory roses and white church candles, et voilà. And when it comes to choosing the Christmas tree, don't be afraid to go for something unusual. You'll find a golden tree, a tabletop paper tree and twin trees in metal planters in our showcase of contemporary Christmas living rooms. All-white contemporary Christmas living room (pictured)
An all-white room is the decorator’s perfect gift at Chistmas: add colour, play with a white-on-white palette, or do as has been done here and keep it monotone, simple and natural. Take cuttings of ivy from the garden and curl them round mirrors and fire mantels, over pictures and along one or two shelves. Make sure the trails stay out of reach of living flames and remember, less is more if you want to avoid turning your living room into a greenhouse. Add more festive ambience with a scented candle - something with a note of incense or smoky tones lifted with a hint of exotic patchouli, perhaps.
Feature tree
Let the Christmas tree do the talking in a large open-plan space, especially if you have high ceilings. Positioning is key, of course; the tree will be a focal point when you open the presents on Christmas Day, but before and after, you want to be able to see it without it getting in the way. Set between the piano and a sofa in the living room, this tree is framed and protected so it looks spectacular but is safe from children and excited pets. Decorating tip: save time, effort and decorating failure by putting the star/fairy and the lights on to the tree first.
Chimney feature A comfortable take on the white-on-white look, with paper stars and baubles, cushions and furnishings in creams, café crème, ginger and cocoa. Keeping things simple (metal tree planters make perfect Christmas tree stands, with brown and white paper for present wrapping) and taking time to play with ideas like the abstract arrangement of garlands and paper stars on the chimney breast are the secret to making this living room so cosy.
