From 2 to 10 August the old capital of Veliko Tarnovo ran the 5 edition of the Stage of the Centuries Opera Festival.
The summer festival “Stage of the Ages” is a unique musical performance for opera and ballet, that is represented outdoor on Tzarevetz Hill in Veliko Tarnovo.
This is one of the emblematic cultural events taking place in the city.
In 1985 the historic hill “Tsarevets” was chosen by the director Plamen Kartalov for his first performance of the opera “Ivaylo” by Martin Golemanov. This was the beginning of a unique artistic event in Bulgaria. The second edition of the cultural forum now called “Stage of Ages” was in 1987 with six performances included in its program.
After 21 years break , the unique itself cultural event in Bulgaria was restored in 2008 connected with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Independence of Bulgaria. On September 12, 2008 “Stage of the Ages” passed through its renaissance with the opera “Turandot” by Puccini. Only for the festival among the ruins of Tzarevets palace was build a special scene, over six meters high. The stage space was organized in harmony with the authentic historical environment, and over 1,5000 spectator seats were located around the stage and underneath the Patriarchal Church.
