The daily special police operations of Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry have filled the cells at the jail on “G.M. Dimitrov” boulevard in Sofia, the Interior Chief Secretary, Kalin Georgiev, informs.
Georgiev says he received information from Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Boyko Naydenov, that the prison now has only four beds left empty.
The cells hold the members of the notorious kidnap gang “The Impudent,” busted in December 2009, the alleged ringleader, Aleksei Petrov, who along with 13 other people, was arrested in February in a special police operation codenamed “Octopus” over charges of organized crime – illegal drug trafficking, prostitution, racket, and money laundering, among others, and over 100 other individuals detained in the last months.
According to Georgiev, the data proves the great work and results of his institution, adding there must be at least two police operations each day.
When asked to comment on the recent publication in the “Economist” magazine, focusing on the danger Bulgaria is becoming a police State, the Chief Secretary said one must not confuse an orderly State with a police one and there is nothing wrong if rules are obeyed by all. |
