With the Start of the Year, Veliko Tarnovo Municipality Tackles Nikyup’s Biggest Problem
A major reconstruction of the water supply network is set to begin in the village of Nikyup, one of the areas most affected by water shortages. The investment proposal was submitted to the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water (RIEW) on January 3, and the project will be funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
According to data from "ViK Yovkovtsi," 21 water supply failures were registered in Nikyup in 2024, affecting 418 households subscribed to the utility company. Measurements revealed that approximately 80% of the water is lost due to leaks in the pipelines. To put an end to this critical issue, a large-scale renovation of the water supply network is planned.
The project will be executed in two phases. In the first phase, the main and feeder pipelines, along with all branches connected to them, will be replaced. The second and final phase will see the remaining pipeline branches throughout the village replaced with new ones.
The documentation indicates that the newly designed water supply network will span a total of 15,762 meters.
The renovation will be carried out under archaeological supervision due to the proximity of the site to the Nikopolis ad Istrum historical reserve. Although the planned route lies outside the protected zones of this significant cultural heritage site, fragments of pottery have been discovered in some private yards in the village.
The implementation of the project is not expected to generate any harmful environmental or health impacts. |
