190 building permits granted for January and February alone
Friday, Mar 06, 2009
Since the beginning of 2009, 190 construction projects have been approved for development, of which more than half are for infrastructure expansion and modernisation. This is part of a five billion leva programme proposed by the Bulgarian Government to battle the economic crisis with massive public spending.

The public construction projects vary greatly in nature and size. Some permits are for railway stations, others are for road sectors in need of renovation or expansion while others are for office buildings, small hotels and administrative centres, Stroitelstvo Gradut reports.

In February, permits were approved for the construction of production facilities, such as a small plastic products factory in Sliven and a paint plant in Rousse. A hospital in the town of Harmanli, an exhibition hall to form part of the Inter Expo Centre, a Billa supermarket in Harmanli, a Kaufland in the western Bulgarian town of Kyustendil, office buildings in Sofia by Immorent Bulgaria on Moskovska St and a church, also in Sofia, in the borough of Ovcha Kupel, are among the buildings approved.

A large waste and water treatment plant was also approved for construction on January 26 in Blagoevgrad. Water supply, sewage and drainage networks are to be built in Banya in Razlog municipality.
