Festival of Bulgarian cinema starts in Rome
Monday, Jun 25, 2018
For the 11th summer Bulgarian films will be screened in Rome during the Festival of Bulgarian Cinema there. Host of the forum is the Casa Del Cinema in the Italian capital city. The program of films and meetings in the period June 28 - July 1 is focused on interaction between literature and cinema and the topic of freedom. The event, which will officially close the cultural calendar of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of EU in Rome, will traditionally feature a delegation of directors, actors and authors of films included in the program.

The film festival will start with “Heights" in the presence of director Viktor Bozhinov. The film based on a novel by Milen Ruskov was awarded the Best Film Award at the Balkan Competition of the 22nd Sofia Film Festival. The program includes some of the most interesting films created over the past year, with a special place dedicated to films inspired by the works of one the most recognizable contemporary Bulgarian writers - Georgi Gospodinov. “8 minutes and 19 seconds” is a film comprised of six short stories. The festival will be closed by director Stefan Komandarev and actors Vassil Banov and Gerasim Georgiev – Gero with a screening of “Directions”, part of the official selection in the category "A Special Look" at the International Film Festival in Cannes in 2017. The festival of Bulgarian cinema in Rome is organized by the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in the Italian capital, thanks to the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the National Film Center.
