Bulgaria Wants to Limit Bus Services to Encourage Those by Train
Monday, Jun 04, 2018
The Minister of Finance, Vladislav Goranov, proposes to limit bus transport, and the purpose of this is to give people an incentive to choose to travel by train.

To give a chance to trains, according to the finance minister, the government need to consider other routes for buses or an option not to move so often. The idea is for people to rediscover train travel.

The proposal comes at a time when "passenger services" have seized accounts because of unpaid debt payments.

"What the finance ministry wants in short-term is just over 20 million leva. They will come from the fiscal reserve as temporary financial assistance, "Goranov said, quoted by Nova TV.

"Here, the problem is not just to pay the bill, but the rail transport should be prioritized. Bus constraints are even possible and acceptable. I'm not saying we should ban bus services, but it's not normal for Bourgas to have a bus that is coming on every 15 minutes, and we expect someone to get on a train. Then the state will choose whether there will be a train or there will be no train, "Goranov said.

Besides transport, Finance Minister commented on the Eurozone. He explained that there is no reason to change our plans and we will probably submit a request for application in the waiting room by the end of June.
