Maya and Plamen (Papi) Kovachev, better known as string duet Weil, won the prestigious Best Instrumentalist Award at the 2016 Most Famous Award Show, held in Las Vegas on November 10th.
Maya and Plamen, originally from Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv, opened the show with their fabulous performance. The bronze statuette that they received is the equivalent of Grammy in the field of modern classical music.
The prestigious award also gives the Weil duo a chance to work with some of the biggest record labels in the world.
Maya and Papi won the hearts of the audience and the jury with original pieces – their own recording versions of some classical and rock compositions.
"When we decided to form Weil back in 2009, we were both playing in different bands. Our initiative was met with a lot of skepticism in Bulgaria, but we both knew it was a risk worth taking and now we see we were right," Maya and Papi told local media.
