Household Income in Bulgaria Rises 3% Y/Y in Q2, Spending Drops 1.5% |

The total income average per household member in Bulgaria has increased by 3% year-on-year, while expenditure has fallen by 1.5%, according to official data released on Monday.
Household income average per capita was BGN 1,239 (EUR 633) during the second quarter of 2016, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a quarterly survey of household budgets. Average expenditure per household member was BGN 1,076.
Wages and salaries had a share of 54.8% within the total income, followed by pensions (29.3%), self-employment (6%) and social benefits - 3.7%.
Compared with the second quarter of 2015, the share of pensions within the total income per capita increased by 13.2%, reaching BGN 363, while the income from wages and salaries edged up by a mere 0.8%, reaching BGN 673. Income from social benefits rose from BGN 44to BGN 45, up1.8%.
Spending on food had a share of 33.2% within total household expenditure per capita in the second quarter of 2016, followed by spending on housing (16.6%), and transport and communication (11.3%).
While household members spent less on food (-1.3%), housing (-1.7%), clothing and footwear (-2.7%), and transport and communication (-2.9%) as absolute values in the second quarter of 2016, compared with the same period a year earlier, expenditure on health services jumped by 14.3% and spending on alcoholic beverages and tobacco remained unchanged, the NSI said
