Consumer loans, credit cards top Christmas wishlist

Consumer loans and credit cards are the most popular banking products ahead of Christmas, showed a ranking of fincity, a portal for financial services and information.

Euro-denominated loans continued to lure more customers than local-currency loans, according to the website.

Mortgage loans provoked less interest in November with the exception of borrowers looking to refinance outstanding credits.

Credit consultants Credit Center also registered weaker mortgage demand plus growing interest rates and dropping average volumes after banks grew tougher on customers.

The average loan volume slumped to EUR 38,694 largely due to the bigger portion of own funding required.

Consumers are more worried about the future and only make long-term financial decisions after a detailed analysis of all possible options, the consultancy said.

The quiet holiday period and the trend to put off pricy purchases should keep loan interest rates where they are at the moment, Credit Center forecast.
