Bio fruits are grown in the village of Nedan

16 tones for 15 ha strawberries are produced this year in Nedan. Due to the bad weather the harvest is fewer than in 2015, when 32 tones were harvested. The gather ended three days ago. The chairman`s cooperation which produced the strawberries – Georgi Serafimov, said that the plantations are grown by modern system for drip irrigation. The detergents which are used meet the European requirements and help the natural production. They were planted with a special machine, which puts nylon around the plants and protects them from weed. The strawberry sort is one of the most famous in Germany – “Zenga Zengana”
“The bio strawberries which we plant are medium sized and have dark red color. Their feature is their taste which is way better than the traditional. They are sweeter and more aromatic” assured Serafimov.
For the harvest 50 people were hired, 20 fewer than the previous year. “As a whole there is a lack of employees. The peasantry of Nedan and the neighbor villages Butovo and Gradishte took part of the harvest. ” said Serafimov.
The agricultural cooperation is first in the area which plans to plant bio raspberries. There are only a few places in Bulgaria where there is such type of production because the plantation is pretentious and needs special care. Another idea is planting bio sore cherries
“One massif of raspberries needs serious preparation. Suitable terrain, additional knowledge, recourse are needed.” he said. Alsho he added that the mission of the cooperation is to increase the plantations. “There is a big unemployment in the small villages and a lot of people go to work in farms abroad. Instead of working there they can do that at home. Although seasonal this job provides good household incomes for 5 to 6 months. ’ Harvesting raspberries last from May to September and does not require experience. People of all ages might join.
The cooperation in Nedan grows also okra and tomatoes.
