First Village for Astronomical Observations to Spring up in Bulgaria
Wednesday, Apr 13, 2016
Investors from the UK will built the first village for astronomical observations in Bulgaria.
According to the website of the project, which bears the name Sky Village BG, this will be Europe's first purpose-designed astronomy village.
The village is to be built in an area between the towns of Gabrovo and Dryanovo in what is considered to be the darkest part of Bulgaria.
Located amidst the beauty of Stara planina mountain, the village will be away from the lights of nearby settlements which hamper astronomical observations.
In an interview for private bTV station on Monday, David Hollands, founder of the project, said that the aim is for the village to become an educational and scientific centre both for professionals and astronomy lovers.
The developers have taken into consideration all aspects of light pollution and the buildings for astronomical observations will be constructed in compliance with all requirements applicable to observatories.
Astronomy lovers will be able to combine their holiday with practical activities, observations and even astrophotography.
The village will have a visitors' centre, its own observatory and conference halls all designed to the highest world standards.
The village will have around fifty houses and should be ready in the beginning of next year.
