There are walking tourist routes of over 300 km in region of Veliko Tarnovo - Tourism association secretary
Friday, Oct 30, 2015
Georgi Dimitrov, secretary of the Trapezitsa tourism association, in an interview with Radio FOCUS’s Legends about Bulgaria broadcast

Host: We will today heads to Veliko Tarnovo. Georgi Dimitrov, secretary of the Trapezitsa tourism association, will tell us about the possibilities for tourism the old Bulgarian capital offers and about the most interesting walking routes in the region. Good afternoon, Mr Dimitrov.
Georgi Dimitrov: Good afternoon. I would like to the thank you for the opportunity to present the possibilities for tourism here in the region of Veliko Tarnovo.

Host: First of all, how would you describe the image of Veliko Tarnovo in terms of tourism? Which is the first and most important thing you tell tourists?
Georgi Dimitrov: We last year decided to publish a new guidebook that will include all popular tourist routes in the region of Veliko Tarnovo in terms of walking tours and connections between Veliko Tarnovo and the respective monasteries and other populated places as well as routes in the urban environment, namely those we know – visiting the Tsarevets [fortress], the Regional Museum of History, the architecture museum and all the rest of places and things from the past in Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi. However, it is important for us as a tourism association that tourists that visit our city and want to combine tours in nature with visits to the respective natural monuments close to it [are able to do it]. So, we have selected routes leading to the village of Arbanasi, the Petropavlovo Monastery, other populated places in the region, such as Sheremetya, Samovodene, and others close to Veliko Tarnovo, the Preobrazhenie Monastery, the Sveta Troitsa Monastery, which are all related to the history of our region. Two years ago, we worked out a very good route connecting Veliko Tarnovo and the Preobrazhenie Monastery, which offers the chance of going to two waterfalls that are highly interesting and easy to access. We built 8 bridges, lots of stairs, and railings to render this route safe so that everyone who wishes can visit these places. The best place to go there is in April, May, and June as well as now in the autumn, in September and October, when there is a lot more water in the 2 gullies.

Host: What are the other most popular and preferred routes by tourists in the area?
Georgi Dimitrov: There are walking tourist routes of over 300 km in region of Veliko Tarnovo and nearby villages. Other popular routes are from Veliko Tarnovo to the Holy Trinity monastery and from there to Bozhur hut and to Arbanassi village.
Another route is from Prisovo village through Malki Chflik village, north to Momina Krepost Fortress and hence connection with Asenov residential district and Ksilifor park and Ksilifor country place.
From Ksilifor there are 12 routes in the direction of Veliko Tarnovo, Arbanassi, Peter and Paul Monastery, Sheremetya village, Malki Chiflik village, Veliko Turnovo University.
Other destinations are Veliko Tarnovo - Belyakovets village, village Samovodene and hence connection with the Transfiguration Monastery.
West of Veliko Tarnovo there are routes linking Cholakovtsi neighbourhood with Bukovets village and Shemshevo village. Other routes that found their place in our guidebook and are already connection between Veliko Tarnovo and Elena municipality, these are routes from Kapinovo monastery in the hills, which are southeast of it and along the Yovkovtsi dam lake, by the village of Marafeltsi and hence to Elena town.
Here we talk about a route which takes nearly 5 hours.
Another such route that connects the two municipalities is Voneshta Voda via the village of Gartsite where you can visit the house of Philip Totyu and then climb to Glavite peak.
In fact, there we pass through the Savchov Chair Reserve.

Host: I suppose that all the routes have the necessary marking and provide enough information, so that not to confuse tourists?
Georgi Dimitrov: All these routes, which I mentioned above, are published in our guide on the website of the tourist company Trapezitsa -1902, so tourists can obtain the necessary information from there.
We have published several maps covering more detailed Veliko Tarnovo and the region. And if there are any questions they can turn to us.
