Ambassador: US Believe in Strong and Capable Bulgaria 8 October 2008, Wednesday

The US Ambassador to Sofia Nancy McEldowney said Wednesday Bulgaria has marked considerable progress in its relations to NATO and the EU to win her country's respect.

The statement was made during a lecture read by the envoy in the Atlantic Club in the capital city.

"The United States believe in strong and capable Bulgaria, which is a strong and capable partner of the country I represent," underlined Mrs. McEldowney.

She defined the US missions in Iraq and Afghanistan as successful ones and praised Bulgaria's troops that backed them.

The ambassador talked also over the independence proclamation of the world's youngest country - Kosovo.

"It was a historic step. Now Kosovo should look at building up democracy," the official said and added Serbia should be fully integrated in all European structures.

Mrs. McEldowney said in her opinion the current Russia's military actions in Georgia were inadmissible but emphasized US and Russia should solve many important problems with joint efforts.
