Bulgaria to Renovate Historic Sites with EU Money

Bulgaria will recover 11 fortresses and hundreds of other historic sites over the next two years, Bulgarian Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova has announced.

A total of BGN 300 M (approximately EUR 152 M) will be invested in the project.

The Madara Rider, a medieval rock relief, Pliska - the first capital of the First Bulgarian Empire, the historic village of Arbanasi, as well as the medieval Asen's Fortress are among the sites to be renovated.

A total of 61 Bulgarian municipalities will participate in the project, Pavlova has told bTV. The municipalities will also have to improve the infrastructure surrounding the historic sites.
