VAT Reduction by 10% Demanded
Friday, Aug 08, 2008
The Bulgarian Association of the Food and Drink industry insists on a reduction of VAT for food products, BNR announced.
The arguments are that the average value of VAT on foods in the European Union is 6-7%.
16% of the income of citizens from the old member states goes for food, statistics reveals. In comparison Bulgarian citizens give 40% of their income for sustenance.
According to Dimitar Zorov from the Association of Milk Producers at a meeting with Vice Premier Meglena Plugchieva the question of VAT reduction has been discussed and there is a real chance that the government understands and accepts the demands of the field organizations.
It is not known, however, when the promised expert group will convene, Zorov said.
