Bulgarians' Trips Abroad Up 2.5% in February 2011 Y/Y

The number of trips of Bulgarians abroad is up in February 2011 by 2.5%, compared to February 2010, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (NSI) released Monday.

265 000 more Bulgarians have traveled abroad in February, compared to one year ago.

Trips to Latvia are up 30%; to Austria – 27%; to Romania – 18%; to the Ukraine – 11%; to Greece – 8%; to Belgium – 6%; to the UK – 5%; to Hungary – 4.5%, and to Poland - 3%.

Trips to Canada are down, however, by 88%; to Norway – 74%; to Malta – 58%; to Lithuania – 53%; to Israel – 47%; to the Czech Republic – 38%; to Switzerland – 29%, and to Slovenia – 28%.

38% of the trips have been on vacation, followed by business trips – 35%, and visiting friends and family – 26%.

291 000 foreigners have visited Bulgaria in February 2011 - nearly 7% more on annual basis.

The number of those coming to the country on vacation is up 10%; business trips are up 9% and transit trips are up 5%.

Visits from citizens of the EU are up 2% in February 2011, compared to February 2010, with the largest increases registered for those from France (23%) and Cyprus (12%). Trips from the Netherlands are down 25%; from Slovenia – 24%, and from Denmark – 23%.

From those outside the EU, the largest increase is registered for trips from the Ukraine – 25%; from Russia – 22%, and from Serbia – 16%.

47% of all foreigners visited Bulgaria in February for vacation travel (47%), followed by transit trips (26%), business trips (15%), and visits of friends and relatives (9%).
