Growth of the companies that offer internship programmes in Bulgaria
Thursday, Mar 17, 2011
Some 125 000 young people have sought opportunities for professional realization at the Bulgarian forum National Career Days: Good Career, Good Life ever since it was founded some 10 years ago. Furthermore, statistics shows that every 6th student who has attended the forum has been presented with an offer for work or internship. The event is unique in scale and significance, as well as a place where businesses meet with young people to offer them career opportunities. The forum is organized by the Job Tiger recruitment agency with the traditional support of Nestle Bulgaria, one of Bulgaria’s biggest food companies. This year’s edition - Career Days 2011 kicks off on 16 March and will run until 6 April, taking place in 7 university cities: Sofia, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Rouse, Svishtov, Plovdiv and Burgas. By tradition, the forum is accompanied by preliminary meetings in which HR professionals help students prepare for their interviews with employers. Bulgaria’s economy has slowly started to recover from the global economic crisis and for the first time in two years there has been a growth in the companies to register for participation at the National Career Days 2011. On their part students and young specialists will enjoy more work offers and internship positions.

“Usually, most of the companies at the Career Days forum are interested in economists and people with command of foreign languages. They are call and support centres”, said Svetlozar Petrov, manager of Job Tiger. “Over the last months the labour market has been in serious demand of IT specialists. At present, there is a shortage of IT specialists and therefore many IT companies will take part in the forum. A good deal of production companies will participate, too. We have always wanted and aspired to offer diverse professional opportunities so that every student at the National Career Days can find a suitable job”, Svetlozar Petrov commented.

This year the forum seems to be of keen interest to the state administration. By tradition, the National Employment Agency with the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy will present EURES, which is the European programme for professional mobility. The Sofia Municipality will be also seeking trainees. The organizer Job Tiger will have a stand at the forum under the motto “Department for combating unemployment”. We bring you next Bilyana Georgieva, manager of Nestle Bulgaria’s HR Department, who talks about the company’s motivation to be a general partner to Career Days 2011.

“On the one hand, our participation in the forum is an expression of our corporate social responsibility policy, since our traditional support enables more and more companies to take part in the event. On the other, our participation in the forum comes to show the development of our internship programmes which have run for 15 years now and have given young graduates a chance to gain their first professional experience. Over these years we have had more than 200 trainees who have taken part in our short-term and long-term internship programmes. Some 80% of them have started permanent work at the company. I am very happy to see colleagues with whom I have been in contact or have taken interviews during the forum, and who are now developing as most successful managers in our company”, Bilyana Georgieva said.
