Bulgarian Atlantic Club Delegation to Meet Investors in Korea
Wednesday, Dec 08, 2010
A delegation of the Bulgarian Atlantic Council is heading for a high-profile visit to the Republic of Korea.

The delegation consisting of the President of the Atlantic Club, Solomon Passy, and businessman Maxim Behar, who is an Atlantic Club board member, has been invited to South Korea by the country's Ambassador in Sofia, Chun Bi-ho, as part of the celebrating of the 20th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea in 1990.

The program of the delegation of the Bulgarian Atlantic Club in South Korea includes meetings with Korea's Minister of Unification, the US Ambassador in Seoul, and major Korean companies interested in investing in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian delegation will pay visits to the industrial facilities of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, among others.

"Korea recognizes Bulgaria as a good destination for investments in industry and tourism. Bulgaria can utilize the resources of the Korean business sector, and use Korea as a gateway in developing its economic relations with Asian countries," stated Ambassador Chun Bi-ho explaing the purpose of the visit of the Atlantic Club delegation.

His Excellency emphasized in turn the fact that Korea has already started a joint project on e-government with Bulgaria's Ministry of IT and Transport.

"It is my understanding that Dr. Passy is the Bulgarian Jean Monnet," said also His Excellency underscoring the importance of the Bulgarian Atlantic Council as a public diplomacy organization.

Dr. Passy, the President of the Atlantic Club, pointed out that Bulgaria, in its capacity as an EU member state, could play a role as a mediator in the relations between South Korea and the EU. He said this potential is the major reason the Bulgarian Club has been selected to send a delegation to the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Chun Bi-ho expressed concern about the recent military provocations on part of North Korea but did express optimism that Korea could be reunified in the future.
