Sevlievo City
The town of Sevlievo is located on the two banks of “Rosica” river, next to the main road connecting the cities of Sofia and Varna. It is 40km west from Veliko Tranovo, 28km north-west from Gabrovo and 175 km north-east form the capital Sofia. The town is an administrative center of Sevlievo Municipality.
Sevlievo is a town with a thousands-old history, which began with the medieval town-fortress, named “Hotalich”. The town keeps numerous architectural monuments from Bulgaria’s Revival Period. The most popular ones of them are the oldest Clock Tower in Bulgaria; the bridge over “Rositsa” river, built by the master Kolio Phicheto; the revival complex “Danodolovi houses”; the “St. Prorok Iliya” and “The Holy Trinity” churches; the unique “Tabahana” leather workshop, etc. South of Sevlievo is located the Monastery of Batoshevo village, which is impressive with the beautiful woodcarvings of the altar and the ancient icons. Attractive is also the natural reserve “Peeshti Skali” (Singing Rocks), part of the National park “Central Balkan”. Another interesting thing about Sevlievo is the motocross development. The World’s motocross championship takes place on the so called “Gorna Rositsa” motor-cycle track near the town, every year.
