Kapinovo Village

Village of Kapinovo (Veliko Turnovo District) is located in North-Central Bulgaria. It is part of Veliko Turnovo Municipality. It is located mainly on three hills, mainly on the right bank of the Vesselina River and is about 17 km. from Veliko Tarnovo and 22 from Elena.
Kapinovo is one of the oldest settlements in Veliko Tarnovo region. The village can boasts with a history of more than 820 years, which dates from the time of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
About 300 people are the permanent residents of the village, most of them retired. Young people return to Kapinovo mostly during the summer months, so during this time of year the residents in the village increase by about 50 people.
Because of the fresh air, the forest, the river and the beautiful scenery around, many foreigners settled in the village. Now, around 7-8 English families live in Kapinovo. Some of them have been in the village for more than 10 years.
Many drinking fountains have been built in the village, most of them raised during the Ottoman rule. At the entrance of Kapinovo all visitors welcome the Chalakovo Spring drinking fountain, which is the oldest fountain in the village. Local people believe that everyone who drinks water from it remains in the village forever. The Babasan Fountain is situated on the banks of the Vesselina River, and around it is a beautiful gazebo. Besides the river, near the village there are three small dams, which attract the fishermen to try their luck by catching carp, caracuda, amur and others.
The church "St. Peter and Paul "was erected in the middle of the village on a high hill, in an open, wide and bright place above the river.
Upstream along the river, near the village is the Kapinovo monastery "St. Nikola ", which is about 8 km away from the village of Kapinovo and is one of the largest permanent monasteries in Bulgaria. Looking from the north, it strikingly resembles a medieval fortress.
The monastery was declared a monument of culture. Right to the monastery, on the Vesselina River, is the Kapinovski waterfall, whose height is 6-7 meters. The height of the water falls is relatively small, but the waterfall is about 6-7 meters deep and 20 meters wide. The village of Kapinovo has good infrastructure - fully electrified and water-supplied, most of the streets are asphalted.
